My life in a nutshell… how to proceed? Timeline, bullet points, a musing rambling of facts and details? Perhaps a combination.

  • General Info
    • Born in Monroe, MI, the only child to David and Pam, already married 4 years
    • Moved two weeks later and lived in Atlanta, New Orleans, Baltimore, Lexington and Louisville by the time I was four
    • Grew up in Louisville, KY, traveled to 24 states by age 5
    • Colleges:
Albion College, Stephen F. Austin andUniversity of Louisville. Graduated with a BA in Spanish and am currently pursuing my Graduate Certification in Latin American Studies
    • Active in theater through high school and even went to the Youth Performing Arts High School
  • Work
    • Mostly worked in restaurants from age 16 through 29, usually upscale, loved wine sales
    • Which led me to my other profession, Wine sales, working for both wholesale distributors and importers, once covering the East Coast from NYC to NC developing the Uruguayan Wine Market – loved it and still love wine
    • Now I work at a large restaurant corporation and have an incredible job, where I am able to be creative daily and interact with people constantly – I’m a lucky girl
  • Memorable moments
    • Age 11, my mother passed away from Multiple Sclerosis
    • Age 17, got to be an exchange student in Italy. Traveled to Belgium and England. Age 18, my Gramma Rose dies on my 18th birthday. Age 19, spent the summer in Boston. Age 20, spent the summer in Chicago, moved home due to illness.
    • Age 21, able to move to Lima, Peru for study and language immersion. Went to Macchu Picchu and was able to enjoy it, along with one other person – Jenny M. from Australia – underneath the cover of only a full moon. An incredibly spiritual experience and a once in a lifetime kind of moment.
    • Age 22, I fell in love, fell ill and did not graduate from college (yet) as I did not take my finals.
    • Age 23, moved to NC with the boyfriend, broke-up, moved to Baltimore.
    • Age 25, lost my Grampa Bill to cancer on Valentine’s Day. I was very close to him.
    • Age 27, lost my father on Dec. 26 to a rare blood disease; lost my grandmother 2 weeks later to an aneurism. Moved back to Louisville to take care of the details.
    • Age 31, got my 2nd promotion which landed me the job I have now. I was so excited I could only think of doing the Snoopy Dance in joy.
    • Age 32, lost my last two grandmothers (the other two were step-, but always a huge part of my life) one in July and one at Christmas. I’m now completely on my own. I also (finally) graduated from college!!
    • Age 33, I’ve decide to pack it all in next year and finally move to South America, a dream I’ve had for some time. I know now that I was born into a family that would leave me early so that I could be free of responsibility and make my mark on the world in my own way. I intend to make them all proud. And I am thankful for my blessings.

What is the significance of the word “chaska”?

  2. Jo Says:

Chaska was my Quechua nickname given to me when I lived in Peru. It literally means, “ojos, brillantes” or “starry eyes.” Though, I must admit, I was often teased and called Chaskosa instead, which means “despeinado” or “messy hair.”

    Hi Chaska

Really grateful for your sharing about Rolfing.
I am about to undergo my last session of Rolfing, currently done by a guy in Australia. Would appreciate you sharing some of the exercises that your Rolfer suggested you do. Mine taught me about sitting/standing. I’ve written them down; if you like, i could even email them to you. We could ‘trade’ exercises if you like. I’m certainly interested in the foot ‘waving’ one you mentioned as my feet still pronate and cause me knee pain occasionally.

    Jo,
Hi – just wanted to let you know that I find your entries about your adventures & life very compelling, interesting, sad and joyful. I work at YUM and don’t know you personally. Lorelei G. told me about your move and I’ve had your blog saved as a favorite since you embarked on your travels. As you know YUM keeps everyone quite busy so I haven’t read your adventures for some time. Thanks for sharing, as I know this requires discipline and much of your free time.
Where in the world are you today….it’s October and way too hot in Louisville. Take care and I hope all is well with you. I look forward to your next escapade.
    Sincerely,
    Pat Schuppert
